College Success

Success Begets Success
With UTC and Chattanooga State as major partners, we expect to improve retention for entering students as well as smooth articulation between two- and four-year institutions.

New initiatives include increased personnel to assist students through the transition process, summer programs for students from the target schools, focus group sessions for students, mentoring programs during the academic year, new transitional academic classes, and service learning projects focused on college success.

Because of the Partnership, there is increased communication between high schools and colleges regarding remediation rates and academic strengths and weaknesses of entering students from target communities.  Programs that bring colleges and high school faculty together are scheduled during the year.  One of the most promising developments resulting from the Partnership is increased collaboration between Chattanooga State, UTC, the Hamilton County school district, and the business community.

Data-Driven Programming
UTC and Chattanooga State administrators will be collecting and analyzing date, both quantitative and qualitative, to drive the development of a strong student success program.  We will be measuring persistence rates from semester one to semester two, and year one to year two for 2005 graduates from the target high schools.  We will also collect grade point averages, progress toward a degree, and transfer information.  See the latest data that we currently have available . . .
