College Access

Opening the Gates of Higher Education
While the Partnership's goal is to increase college access for all public school students, the three schools representing our target areas -- Howard, Red Bank, and Sale Creek -- are serving as pilot schools for the project.

Leadership teams at these schools are implementing college night programs, senior retreats, college tours, test preparation activities, and faculty training to ensure that all students and their parents have the information they need to plan for, apply, and pay for college. In addition, the College Access task force has developed college and financial aid information programs that can be presented in community agencies, public housing developments, neighborhood centers, and churches.

The Partnership is Hamilton County's liaison to College Goal Sunday, a statewide initiative to help students and families complete the forms necessary to receive federal students aid.  We also help sponsor Camp College, a summer program that brings rising seniors from the target schools together to get a head start on the college admission process, with the help of college admission counselors.

Finally, College Access task force members work closely with school counselors and college advisors to help more students prepare for college.
